I don’t think I’m asking for much when I wish for the following:
- to see equal rights — including bodily and psychological autonomy — for all Americans regardless of race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, religion, ethnicity, etc enshrined in the Constitution and guaranteed by appropriate legislation
- to see the replacement of income taxes on wages and salaries with taxes on capital gains, high-frequency trading, and excessive wealth
- to live in a secular post-Christian society where one’s religion is even more private than one’s sex life
- to live in a world where one can have a comfortable, dignified life working no more than sixteen hours a week
- to see people understand and accept that the existence of billionaires is a sign of market failure
- to see corporate power dramatically scaled back
- to see freedom from want and freedom from fear held in equal esteem to freedom of speech and freedom of religion
- to see corporations summarily dissolved for the equivalent of driving while black
- to see the end of social media in favor of a truly computer-literate populace claiming their own spaces on the internet
- to see driving while black no longer be an offense worthy of summary execution
- to see assassination become a common occupational hazard for powerful people who abuse their position
- to see a new worldwide space program designed to make humanity a starfaring species capable of building habitats orbiting other planets instead of upon them
- to never again have to hear about atrocities in Israel because the Jewish state has been peacefully succeeded by a secular Palestinian state in which Jews, Christians, Muslims, and adherents of all other faiths are equal citizens living in harmony
- for people to grow up and stop worrying about whether the person in the bathroom stall next to them might have the “wrong” genitals
- to see war itself become a war crime, as leaders who start wars are put on trial before the International Criminal Court for “disturbing the peace”
- to live under a rule of law that binds all and protects all in equal measure
- to see everybody let Satan into their hearts, make a virtue of defiance, and live for themselves first and foremost instead of falling to their knees whenever some “higher power” demands their submission
- to live in a world where no human being is mistaken for a thing, or a means to somebody else’s ends, but is treated as an end in themselves
